2066.9

2066.9

the mountain air is quite crisp

and the smell of maples and pine

fills their lungs with something brand new.

At 2066 high

where the land meets the bright blue sky

and birds dare to spread wings and soar,

where they can see everything.

At 2066 feet

two young hearts begin to beat,

for perhaps the very first time,

together as love starts to grow.

Up at 2066,

above the crunching of dry sticks,

you can hear two souls come to see

without each other, they can’t be.

The Pull

The force of the ocean waves

crashing on the shore

and the pull of the water

back to it’s home

has nothing on the pull

I feel in my heart

when you look at me.

Connection

A connection is defined as

a person, thing, or idea

that is linked to something else.

But yet a connection

is something far deeper;

far more complex than just that.

A connection is something that

you can feel, something you can see.

A connection is undeniable.

When two magnets have

their north and south ends near,

it is hard to deny that there will

soon be a connection

that will be difficult to pull apart

once the two objects meet.

If you hold the two magnets

in separate hands, you will feel

the magnets pulling, longing

to be connected with the other.

I am like a magnet,

the north end perhaps,

waiting for my southern half

to feel the same tugging

at their heart.

It’s bound to happen eventually,

but how close do I have to get?

This Hope

I once had this hope

that maybe my poems

would speak all the words

that I knew I could not;

That the right choice of words

and the right amount of something

that I did not have would be enough

when I knew that I was not;

That maybe the emotions

that I’m constantly holding back

would be felt in my writing

that I knew I could not share.

but I know they are not.

I still have this hope

that maybe someday they will

if  I would only share those poems

with the rest of the world

and not keep them to myself…

yet I know I will not.

Sometimes…

Sometimes I wish the words for my poems

could flow as smoothly and as enchanting

as the ones in an Ed Sheeran love song.

Sometimes they do.

Sometimes I get caught in the moment

and find myself swept away in the magic

of the feelings I have and the words I type.

Sometimes I read what I write and think

“This is simply perfect.

I’ve captured a small glimpse perhaps

of what I originally intended,

but yet it’s exactly what I meant.”

Sometimes I take a step back and wonder

if the words are truly my own

because I don’t believe that my

lonely, loveless heart could have

produced words full of such awe.

Sometimes I get excited to share these

words crafted by my soul with the world,

but I always remember I can’t.

So while I may wish to enchant the world

with my own lyrics like Ed,

I’ll have to settle with saving

my soul to my file of drafts

full of other hopes waiting for their time

to shine like the light of a thousand stars…

The Perfect Love Story

Someone asked me today

to describe the perfect love story

but the truth is you can’t.

There is no such thing.

Love is messy.

Love is unique.

Love is all over the place.

One story that may speak to me,

may speak differently to you

because we don’t have the same heart.

And the things I have felt

in my 21 years of experience

cannot ever be fully captured in words

no matter how hard I may try.

The truth is love is its own language

and it writes it’s own stories

that are intended for small, intimate audiences

and it’s not up to me to put it into words.

I cannot capture the full meaning

behind a smile’s joy

or certain looks given

or even laughs shared.

I cannot only feel the perfect love story

and hope people can catch a small glimpse

of it through my eyes

as I try to live the story.

Love is not a perfect story to be told.

Love is a life to live to it’s fullest.

A Love Poem

I want to write a love poem,

but that requires not only someone to write about,

but someone to love.

And while I’m sure if I took a moment

and gave it some thought,

I could find someone to write a poem about

because it doesn’t take much for me to love someone.

I have a lot of love to share with the world

and if you’re important in my life,

I probably love you.

Family, friends, students.

If I can put your name to your face,

the odds are I love you.\

The problem is it takes something more

then just me loving someone

to write a good love poem.

Lovee poems need a certain magic

that only comes from being loved back.

A love poem is not nearly as heartfelt

as when there is a sense of an unbreakable bond.

At this time, the only unconditional love

that meets this condition in my life

is my dog.

And she can’t read sooooooo…

no love poems today.
